The Silver Bridge Tragedy occurred one fateful evening on December 15, 1967 when local citizens on both sides of the river at Point Pleasant, West Virginia were rushing home from their normal routine of work or shopping. Local and out-of-state truckers were trying to make their scheduled deliveries. High up on the superstructure of the 39 year old Silver Bridge, a critical flaw had developed in one of the eyebars. Unbeknownst to those in the heavy rush hour traffic below, a serious structural failure was about to happen and the resulting domino effect was about to plunge the small community into a shocking tragedy which, to this day, has not been forgotten. At 500 PM, the entire bridge over the Ohio River collapsed, resulting in 46 fatalities and 9 injured victims. The lives of family, friends and co-workers were forever impacted.

The Silver Bridge Tragedy George Dudding 9781511636742 Books Reviews
For anyone interested in Point Pleasant, and the events surrounding the collapse of the Silver Bridge in December of 1967, this is a book you'll want to add to your library. The author places a personal touch on the tragedy, sharing events from his perspective. He also touches on the lives of each person lost and injured when the bridge fell. A short, but highly intriguing read.
I think this book is essential reading. It's a very detailed and sobering look at a real life tragedy, regardless of any potential association it may have had with the recent supposed (my own jury is out) appearances of the Mothman in the Point Pleasant area. The author grew up there and was in high school when the Silver Bridge collapsed, and I found his writing very evocative -- I was also in high school at the time, and I remember when the event happened. I still sometimes think about it as I'm driving across a bridge. The technical engineering details the author includes were lost on me, but I'm sure those in that profession would find them interesting and informative. Well worth your time.
Really disappointing. One of the most tedious books I've read in some time. It is unfortunate that the author didn't just tell his story rather than repeating similar stories over and over (and over) for every victim. This book may have been needed as a historical record, but it certainly doesn't need to be marketed for casual reading. I highly recommend you skip this one.
