I started reading this, thinking I'd stay up a bit late and read the rest in the morning. Now, it's 2 am and I just finished it. The novel was well-paced, and I enjoyed both main characters. Overall, I have no complaints aside from losing a few hours of sleep. I might have to re-read this one some day.Tags : In Bed with the Duke (Harlequin Historical) [Annie Burrows] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <b>"Vile seducer of women!"</b><b> </b> Of all the accusations Gregory, Duke of Halstead,Annie Burrows,In Bed with the Duke (Harlequin Historical),Harlequin,0373298803,England - Social life and customs - 19th century,Historical fiction,Inheritance and succession,Love stories.,Man-woman relationships,Nobility - England,Nobility;Fiction.,Regency fiction,Regency fiction.,Romance fiction,10044214,1153749,1280,20160501,706848,Canada,ENGLISH HISTORICAL FICTION,ENGLISH LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,England,FICTION Historical General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction Historical,Fiction Romance Historical General,Fiction Romance Historical Regency,Fiction Romance Suspense,Fiction-Romance,FictionHistorical - General,FictionRomance - Historical - General,FictionRomance - Suspense,General Adult,Historical fiction,Inheritance and succession,Love stories.,MASS MARKET,Man-woman relationships,Monograph Series, any,Nobility - England,Nobility;Fiction.,Regency fiction,Regency fiction.,Regency;Historical romance;One Night with Consequences;Marriage of Convenience;aristocrat;duke;Scandals;Alpha male;Historical;historical drama;historical fiction;period drama;period fiction,Romance - Historical - General,Romance - Historical - Regency,Romance - Suspense,Romance fiction,RomanceRegency,Romance: Regency,FICTION Historical General,Fiction Historical,Fiction Romance Historical General,Fiction Romance Historical Regency,Fiction Romance Suspense,FictionHistorical - General,FictionRomance - Historical - General,FictionRomance - Suspense,Romance - Historical - General,Romance - Historical - Regency,Romance - Suspense,Fiction - Romance,English Historical Fiction,English Light Romantic Fiction,Fiction,Romance: Regency
In Bed with the Duke Harlequin Historical Annie Burrows 9780373298808 Books Reviews
This was an enjoyable and entertaining romance that had a wonderful hero and heroine and I found myself immersed so much that I couldn't put it down. Prudence was a delightful heroine and Gregory a hero that any woman would love to come to her rescue. I enjoyed how Prudence stood up to her Duke and how she won him over. Would have liked to see the villain get his comeuppance at the end but it was enough to know that her Aunt at least did. This was a thoroughly enjoyable romance that I heartily recommend.
Gregory and Prudence's adventures were a fun read. As soon as they reached Gregory's family, the story turned from fun to silly. Their bickering due to forgetting what they learned of each other went on too long.
Ms. Burrows writes her romances with tongue in cheek and a definite sense of humor. This novel starts where most romances end—with the leading lord and lady in bed together. So how did that happen?
Therein lies a tale and quite a saucy and funny tale it is too. Having both been drugged for unknown and nefarious reasons, Prudence and Gregory embark on a road trip that involves a foul-tempered nag, a conniving aunt, a greedy uncle, suspicious tavern keepers, lecherous fops, an angry, gun-toting, bickering farmer and his wife, theft, secret identities and so much more. If it sounds improbable, the two are well aware of it. But that makes it a truly ripping yarn.
Another aspect of Ms. Burrows’s novels are the inherent misunderstandings that arise from mistaken impressions, silences and misinterpretation of other people’s moods. Just because you’ve got the hots for someone doesn’t mean you know what’s going on in your significant other’s mind and Ms. Burrows is well aware of this. Because Prudence gets unnerved by the revelation of Gregory’s real social status, marriage gets proposed, withdrawn, awkwardly handled and refused in such dizzying succession, you wonder if these two will actually make it to the altar.
The novel manages to amuse and titillate in equal measure as the unlikely bedfellows argue and battle their way to understanding and into marriage. It’s good stuff and shows that there’s more to romance than automatic sexual heat.
Sparkling, witty and absolutely delightful, In Bed with the Duke is the latest captivating tale from the queen of Regency romantic comedy, Annie Burrows.
When Gregory, Duke of Halstead, bedded down for the night in a grimy inn, he never expected to wake up naked in bed with a virginal beauty and end up being accused as a seducer of innocents by her scheming aunt! Gregory is damned if he is going to have his integrity compromised by a hysterical woman and he loses no time in throwing everyone - including the seductive girl in his bed whose body is now imprinted on his mind! - out of his room and hopefully out of his life for good. However, it seems that fate has got other plans in store for him and his unexpected bedfellow!
Ever since her Aunt Charity remarried, Prudence Carstairs' life has gone from bed to worse. Constantly punished for the smallest of misdemeanors, Prudence feels her spirit and joie de vivre being eroded every single wretched day she spends in their company. When she awakens one day in bed with a naked stranger, Prudence is flabbergasted and alarmed, however, even she cannot resist sneaking a peek at Gregory's gorgeous naked physique! She may never have met a man as handsome as Gregory, but Prudence is not willing to trap him into marriage, but little does she realise that she's about to be thrust into very close proximity with the man whom she simply cannot stop thinking about!
After rescuing her from an ostler's lascivious hands, Gregory realises that if he leaves Prudence alone, there is no telling what kind of scrapes she will get herself into. Taking her under his wing, Gregory is determined to get Prudence as far away from her wily aunt and crafty husband as he possibly can. However, the one thing he hadn't counted on was on falling head over heels in love with his seductive charge!
As mutual attraction gives way to a passion that simply cannot be denied, Gregory and Prudence quickly find themselves giving into temptation and succumbing to pleasure, but with dangerous secrets and shocking scandals standing in their way, does their burgeoning love stand a chance of surviving? Or are they destined to spend the rest of their life condemned to a lifetime of regret?
Annie Burrows effortlessly blends wit, heart, passion and pathos in irresistible stories which historical romance readers find absolutely impossible to resist and In Bed with the Duke is the latest in a long line of fantastic Regency romances readers will find themselves unable to put down. Deftly juggling laugh-out humour and hilarious repartee with searing emotional drama and red-hot romance, In Bed with the Duke is a stellar tale of hope, second chances, courage and the healing power of love that has got keeper written all over it!
Wonderfully written, uplifting and outstanding from start to finish, In Bed with the Duke is another must-read by Annie Burrows!
GREAT! Really enjoyed it!
I thought this was a fun read. The character of Prudence reminded me of some of the youthful characters of Georgette Heyer. Gregory, the Duke, was interesting as he became looser, not a stuffy Duke, during their adventure. I enjoyed this well written book very much, the only problem I had with it was the term "Army brat", used more than once. It seemed more like a modern term and seemed out of place to me. I could be wrong, but I think "brat" had a different meaning at that time.
I really like this book based on the banter between the h and H. I feel the name sort of gave away the "surprise". Perhaps it should have been titled "In Bed with a Stranger" or something in that vein.
I started reading this, thinking I'd stay up a bit late and read the rest in the morning. Now, it's 2 am and I just finished it. The novel was well-paced, and I enjoyed both main characters.
